Warehouse Technician

Solalights is an independent lighting hire company supplying film, television and photography.
We are a small, friendly team with a practical, hands-on approach and a reputation built on technical knowledge, well-maintained equipment and reliable service.
We’re looking for somebody to join our warehouse team, helping check equipment back from hire and prepare it for its next job.
The Role
The main focus is making sure equipment going out on hire is tested, complete, correctly packed and ready to work—and that returned equipment is carefully checked before going back into stock.
You’ll work with a wide range of professional lighting equipment, alongside colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and experience.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing equipment for outgoing hires, checking booking lists and making sure all necessary accessories are included.
Checking and testing returned equipment, identifying faults, damage or missing items.
Scanning equipment in and out using our rental management system.
Cleaning equipment and returning it to its correct storage location.
Helping load and unload vehicles and assisting customers collecting or returning equipment.
Carrying out routine maintenance and small repairs, with technical support where needed.
Carrying out PAT testing and helping keep the testing programme and maintenance records organised.
Keeping the warehouse, tools and work areas organised and safe.
As a small company, everybody gets involved where needed. The work varies throughout the day, and you’ll sometimes need to put one task aside to help prepare a booking or deal with equipment coming back.
About You
We’re interested in finding somebody practical, dependable and keen to do a job properly.
Ideally, you’ll have experience with lighting, photographic, broadcast, theatre or AV equipment, particularly preparing and checking equipment in a hire environment.
You should have a working understanding of electrical theory as it applies to film and photographic lighting, including power, current, loading, cables, connectors and electrical safety. Experience carrying out PAT testing would also be valuable.
You should be:
Reliable and punctual.
Interested in equipment and willing to develop your technical knowledge.
Careful and methodical, with good attention to detail.
Comfortable working with colleagues and dealing with customers.
Happy with practical work, including safely moving and handling equipment.
Able to take responsibility for your tasks and recognise when to seek technical advice.
Experience with rental software and equipment maintenance would be useful.
